Death was an influential American death metal band founded in 1983 by guitarist and vocalist Chuck Schuldiner, and dissolved in 2001. They are widely credited as the creators of the death metal genre, from the release of their first demo in 1984. The band's label debut Scream Bloody Gore is considered a template of the genre, described as death metal's first archetypal document.
