Bete Calligaris returns to the Brazilian musical scenery with her second CD, this time in a very fair tribute to singer and composer Tom Zé. "Um tom do Zé" will surely impact even the long-time admirers of the Bahia-native composer, who was re-discovered by the Talking Heads leader, David Byrne, by the end of the 80s. Today, Tom Zé is very successful in Brazil and abroad thanks to a very creative career.
However, the Tom Zé that Bete is bringing to life in her new CD is little known to the public.
Acknowledged for his audacity and musical innovations, the Tom Zé who emerges in this CD through Bete Calligaris´ refined voice is a romantic and very poetic composer.
Produced by Jorge Brennand Jr. and with musical arrangements by Álvaro Seabra, "Um tom do Zé" presents 12 romantic songs in a harmonic and orchestral style. In "Ui", with musical arrangement by Celso Fonseca, Bete sings along with Tom Zé.In "Valsar", Túlio Mourăo was responsible for the musical arrangement and played the piano. Both vocal direction and vocal arrangements are by Ju Cassou.
The distinguished choral "Harte Vocal" joins Bete in "Solidăo" and "O riso e a faca". It seems that Bete and Tom Zé did not meet just by chance: both were born in October, both practice Tai Chi Chuan and had the same master, Liu Pai Lin. The two of them are foreigners in the cities where they live: Tom Zé, born in Bahia now lives in Săo Paulo and Bete, a natural of Săo Paulo, lives in Rio. They met when Bete was a cultural marketing executive of IBM and invited Tom Zé to participate in the projetct "IBM Encontro Marcado com a Arte". It was love at first sight! "I have decided to declare my love for this fantastic human being", says Bete.
Bete Calligaris is a singer, poet and Tai Chi Chuan instructor. She has worked for many years in the cultural marketing area of IBM making possible a large number of important cultural projects throughout and country. She now holds a partnership at "Arte com Trato", a cultural marketing enterprise. With the same firmness she takes care of her business, she has decided to dedicate herself to her prime talent: singing.
